Before the weekend starts, on Thursday the 26th there will be a History & Hops (free) local history lecture at 6 p.m. at Seaside Brewing Co. (851 Broadway, Seaside). Jerry Ostermiller will share A Tale of Two Shipwrecks: Underwater Archaeology on the Most Dangerous Bar. His findings discuss a puzzling 1989 discovery of a shipwreck near Sand Island at the mouth of the Columbia River. His research has been featured on a National Geographic Society TV production.
The family friendly 39th Annual Rockaway Beach Kite Festival is returning on May 27th to 30th. The event is sponsored by the American Kitefliers Association, and it hosts professional and amateur kite fliers. There will be competitions available, but anyone, regardless of their kite flying skill level is encouraged to come fly a kite! Children can build their own kites and there will be live music and food.
Fort Stevens State Park in Warrenton, OR is holding their Annual Celebrating Freedom, Celebrating Veterans Event on May 28th and 29th. This is a family friendly event where you can visit different stations and receive a prize as you explore the history of the fort. There will be a raffle to fire a Civil War period cannon. Food and drinks will be available for purchase.
